How do seabirds filter seawater?

ever wonder where seabirds (gulls, pelicans, penguins, etc.) get their fresh water? they have a pair of salt glands (supraorbital) that filter out the salt and turn this into brine that drips out their noses. ever see a gull tilting his head down and water drips out? that's what's happening. Other animals that also have salt glands, include sea turtles, crocodiles (crocodile tears) and sharks.

Lily Ingestion

There are dangerous and benign lilies--and the dangerous ones can be deadly. Peace, Peruvian, and Calla lilies contain oxalate crystals that cause minor signs of illness, such as tissue irritation in the mouth, tongue, pharynx, and esophagus, which, in turn, causes minor drooling. The potentially fatal lilies are true lilies, including Tiger, Day, Asiatic, Easter, and Japanese Show lilies. These are all highly toxic to cats. Even small ingestions (such as eating the pollen or just two to three petals or leaves) can result in kidney failure.

Rattlesnakes are coming out of hiding

It's rattlesnake time in SoCal. If your dogs are on trails or exposed to snake areas at times, i recommend the crotalus vaccine. ask your vet for more info. Even if your dog is vaccinated, a rattlesnake bite still needs medical attention. It just provides a better immune response and a better chance at survival.http://www.facebook.com/pages/San-Clemente-CA/Mikes-Pet-Care/189572726193?ref=nf

Dog's sniffers

The olfactory bulb in dogs is roughly forty times bigger than the olfactory bulb in humans, relative to total brain size, with 125 to 220 million smell-sensitive receptors.[84] The bloodhound exceeds this standard with nearly 300 million receptors.[84] Dogs can discriminate odors at concentrations nearly 100 million times lower than humans can. ref-wikipedia

Propylene Glycol Antifreeze is Far Less Toxic

Propylene Glycol Antifreeze is Far Less Toxic (and Less Tasty)

Ideally, consumers should purchase the far less toxic propylene glycol antifreeze products, which are biodegradable, anti-corrosive, and recyclable, and work just as well as the more highly toxic ethylene glycol antifreeze. Propylene glycol antifreeze is less likely to cause fatal poisoning, and it doesn't taste like candy the way ethylene glycol does, so pets and children are far less likely to consume it.

Antifreeze ingestion treatment protocal for your pet

Antifreeze (ethylene glycol) is sweet in taste and is poisonous to your pet. Even a tablespoon of the liquid can be toxic or fatal to a small dog. It progresses in three stages. First symptoms can appear within 30 minutes, and involve an appearance of drunken behavior with stumbling, staggering, vomiting, extreme thirst and frequent urination. It can cause permanent kidney damage and death. If you observe your pet licking anitfreeze get him/her to your vet immediately. If you cannot get your pet to a vet right away you can induce vomiting. In order to induce vomiting, the animal must be fully conscious, breathing without difficulty and free of seizures. Feed the dog blackened toast: This will help neutralize some of the toxins, while also absorbing some of the poison. It’s much easier to induce vomiting when there is substance present in the stomach. Achieving emesis in a dog with only fluids in the stomach is more difficult. Give 3% Hydrogen Peroxide: Within five minutes of feeding the toast, give the dog one teaspoon of hydrogen peroxide per each 5 to 10 pounds of body weight.http://www.facebook.com/pages/San-Clemente-CA/Mikes-Pet-Care/189572726193?ref=nf#/pages/San-Clemente-CA/Mikes-Pet-Care/189572726193?ref=mf
